NBL odds guide
NBL head-to-head versus line odds on one fixture
A team can win an NBL game but fail to cover the points line. Keep the two markets separate.
The two markets settle on different questions
An NBL head-to-head bet concerns which team wins under the bookmaker's stated rules. A line bet adjusts the selected team's score by the signed points number. A team that wins by two can satisfy its head-to-head selection and still fail to cover a −3.5 line.
The official NBL schedule identifies the game, round, venue and tipoff. Use those details before comparing bookmaker rows, particularly when the same teams meet again later in the season.
A line is more than its price
The selected team, signed points and decimal odds travel together. Team A −3.5 at 1.91 and Team A −4.5 at 2.05 are different bets. A four-point win covers the first and loses the second. The larger 2.05 payout cannot be called the best price for −3.5.
If two bookmakers both offer Team A −3.5, their prices can be compared directly. A $100 winning stake returns $194 at 1.94 or $190 at 1.90. The table should show a single-book quote without a best badge if nobody else lists the same line.
Read local game context separately
Travel, rest and team availability can matter to a reader, but each fact needs a source and should not be presented as the proven cause of a bookmaker move. Compare matching quotes first, then consider the surrounding information.
- Confirm the NBL fixture and selected team.
- Read head-to-head and line as distinct markets.
- Match the signed line before ranking decimal payouts.
Worked example
Illustration: Team A wins by two. Its head-to-head selection wins; Team A −3.5 loses. At the same Team A −3.5 line, 1.94 returns $194 on a $100 winning stake versus $190 at 1.90.
Illustrative numbers for explaining the calculation. They are not current bookmaker quotes.
Sources and method
The scores and prices are hypothetical. Decimal total return is stake times price. The NBL schedule is the fixture reference; actual bookmaker settlement rules should be checked separately.
